This course is aimed at anyone who wants to learn how to make vegetable seeds.

With these videos you can learn, step by step, how to produce seeds of 40 vegetables.

These tutorials are complemented by 8 theoretical or practical ABCs that explain the general basics of seed production.

These films were produced by Longo Maï and the European Civic Forum, two associations that have long been concerned about the future of seeds.

Why produce your own seeds?

By making our own seeds, we regain our place in the dynamics of biodiversity to which we belong as living beings.

Every reproducible seed contributes to the continuity of life on earth.

However, today we are dependent on the big seed companies to sow. Read more

How to reproduce seeds?

We have designed this site to answer all your questions and the vital need to regain control over the know-how of seed production.

How to make tomato, salad, bean, courgette, parsnip, cabbage or cardoon seeds?

What is pollination?

What is the life cycle and botanical classification of the plants we grow in the garden?

To help you discover this forgotten knowledge, we have made available on this site all the basic videos to learn how to sow seeds for about thirty vegetables.

Where can I get reproductive seeds?

If you want to sow your own vegetable seeds every year, it is best to select your seeds carefully: organic and reproducible.

This is the definition of a seed, yet most seeds sold by the major seed companies are F1 hybrids, non-reproducible and patented.

To buy seeds of old, hardy and reproducible varieties, buy from Pascal Poot, Kokopelli, Biaugerme, Germinance or The farm of Sainte Marthewhich provide excellent quality seeds.

It is also possible to exchange seeds, in seed libraries or seed exchanges, or to barter with your neighbours.

Is it legal to reproduce your own seeds?

Seeds authorised for sale in France must be registered in the official GNIS catalogue: this is the monopoly of large seed companies such as Monsanto.

Reproducing your own seeds is not illegal, as long as they are old, non-hybrid, reproducible and free vegetable seeds.

Selling own seeds is also allowed, as long as it is direct sale, between individuals and traditional seeds.

What is prohibited, however, is the resale of seeds not listed in the official catalogue.

This is what earned Kokopelli years of litigation: this association brings together networks of seed producers, most of whom are not listed in the official catalogue.

In 2019, the Egalim law finally authorised the free sale of old seeds, only to ban it again a few months later. Read more.

In short, be resistant! Produce, distribute and sow for future generations and biodiversity!

  • Becoming self-sufficient is the primary strategy for the coming months and years!
  • Moreover it is a flourishing business for the one who in the near future will own his plot of land, water, animals and his vegetable seeds...which will be worth all the gold in the world!

Course Content

What is a seed?
The seed is the result of the transformation of the fertilised ovule by pollination. It is formed by the embryo surrounded by a nutrient reserve and protected by an envelope called the integument. This nutrient reserve is more or less important depending on the species.
